Southern University Bangladesh (Bengali: সার্দান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or (SUB) is a private university located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. SUB was established in 1998 under the Private University Act 1992.[1] The university founded by Mr. Sarwar Jahan & Mrs.Ishrat Jahan. It began its life as Institute of Management & Information Technology (IMIT). SUB is affiliated by the University Grants Commission Bangladesh.
Southern University Bangladesh is located at the south-eastern part of Bangladesh called Chittagong. The region with its lash green beauty that stands as the historic gateway to Bangla. It is the second largest city popularly known as commercial capital of Bangladesh. The port city Chittagong has an international airport, extended sea beach and an export processing zone (EPZ) for direct foreign investments.
History:
1998: To fulfill the academic, moral and practical needs of business graduates with computer knowledge the Institute of Management & Information Technology (IMIT) was established with joint enrolment program with American Universities to offer Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines.
2000: IMIT became an affiliated institute of UK,USA.
2001: The sponsors(Mr.Sarwar Jahan & Mrs.Ishrat Jahan of the institute formed a non-profit organization called AJ Foundation under which Southern University was established. AJ Foundation has been registered under the Societies Regulation Act XXI of 1860, Issue 574, CHC 151, 2001
2002: To offer high qulaity educational opportunities in order to enable students to reach their individual academic goals, Southern University Bangladesh absorbed IMIT under the guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh, which is the highest accredited body for Bangladeshi universities. UGC and the Ministry of Education of the Government of Bangladesh approved Southern University as one of the legal private university in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
